Minister tours Mildura factory

National Waste Policy Action Plan
Whether Australia stands knee deep in waste plastic in 2030 will be determined by the success of the National Waste Policy Action Plan. So, we were thrilled to welcome the Federal Minister for the Environment Sussan Ley, Member for Mallee Dr Anne Webster, and CEO Pro-Pac Packaging Group Tim Welsh to our Mildura factory last week.

“It was a privilege to present to such an influential group” said Stephen Webster GM Integrated Recycling. “We focussed on how we can help the government meet its key goals in the Action Plan and demonstrated this with a tour of the factory. The group was particularly interested in the process of turning waste plastic into high performance infrastructure scale products.”

“The ambition of the National Waste Policy Action Plan and what we are doing are beautifully aligned, creating a real opportunity to make a difference. But the key is the commitment to the targets set by each government for the use of recycled products in infrastructure projects.”

Stephen continued, “The government’s influence in procurement will play a significant role in commercialising large scale infrastructure projects like the Duratrack railway sleeper. Such innovative products are a part of Australia’s waste plastic solution.”

Dr Anne Webster the local member for Mallee, was particularly interested in this regional solution for a nationwide problem. The reuse and repurposing of local waste plastic into scale infrastructure products for the nation is a logical direction.

Integrated Recycling recovers waste plastic, principally used for agriculture in The Mallee, to produce tough and extremely long life Parkscape products from Bollards to Boardwalks, Retaining Walls to Outdoor Furniture. As well as the Duratrack railway sleeper.

Following through with the commitment to the National Waste Policy Action Plan, will see Australia as a leader in the development of innovative sustainable large scale infrastructure products like Duratrack.

Integrated Recycling is a subsidiary of Pro-Pac Packaging Group, and its CEO, Tim Welsh is committed to the scale of the opportunity for Duratrack railway sleepers to help shape the circular economy. For every kilometre of sleepers laid between 64 and 99 tonnes of waste plastics will be used. “The Duratrack sleeper is hungry for waste plastic. Our challenge is to increase demand and commercialise Duratrack at a national level,” said Tim.

Integrated Recycling’s products consist of 85% recycled plastics and uses the extraordinary durability of plastic to provide their longevity at the end of which they are fully recyclable.
