Innovative Projects

A sustainable future depends on many things, not the least is innovation. IR continues to invest in forward thinking projects that demand high performing sustainable materials on an industrial scale.

Blox Safety Support System

IR was approached by Blox Safety Support Systems to develop their product range from the tough and extremely durable Polytensilate. Blox identified a market opportunity to develop a strong, load rated material which was able to be moulded with a non-slip interlocking profile.

Polytensilate Gas Pipe Line Supports

At the Cooper Basin, Beach Energy utilises Polytensilates qualities of extreme durability and structural integrity to support their gas pipes off the desert floor.

Over 100 tonnes of Polytensilate supports and bollards have been suppled to Beach Energy.

Polytensilate Protective Boards

On this trailer Polytensilate boards provide grip to the treads of a 385tn excavator.

The toughness and durability of Polytensilate protective boards out perform materials like timber.

Red Gum Gully Boardwalk at Red Cliffs

Envire Sustainable Boardwalks: The Red Cliffs area is rich in history. It was settled by return servicemen from WW1 who were offered 15 acres of land for the production of sultanas. Co-incidentally, it is the discarded vine covers from these table grape vineyards in the Red Cliffs district that Integrated Recycling collects and uses as a key resource to produce its recycled plastic product range; including the decking used on the Red Cliffs boardwalk project …truly a local solution for a nationwide problem.

The Workers Club, Outdoor Furniture

Envire Sustainable Outdoor Furniture: Mildura has a harsh desert climate that quickly deteriorates outdoor timber furniture. Very cold nights are followed by very hot days. This subjects timber to a relentless and destructive expansion and contraction cycle. Happily, our recycled plastic mix is impervious to temperature extremes and does not absorb water which makes it extremely durable. It has a very long lifespan.

Over 100 tonnes of Polytensilate supports and bollards have been suppled to Beach Energy.

Central Deborah Gold Mine, Bendigo Victoria

Mine shaft braking posts (skids): “It is my pleasure to report to you that the recycled plastic cage guides (skids) installed in our mine shaft have exceeded all our expectations.”

We supplied the Central Deborah Gold Mine with skids because the timber versions wore badly and were being replaced continuously – making it a costly exercise. Karl Penrose, Mine Manager, has been delighted with the results and sent us this testimonial.

Gol Gol Boat Mooring Area, Murray River

Retaining Wall Sleepers, Pyramid Top Bollards, Canoe Launcher: Situated on the banks of the Murray River, Gol Gol is located just 6km from Mildura.

The redevelopment of the Gol Gol boat mooring area and canoe launcher was commissioned by the Wentworth Council in a program that replaced the dilapidated timber structures with the more durable composite recycled plastic.

Kings Billabong Canoe Launcher

Custom made to clients specifications: This modular all abilities facility was developed by IR for Parks Victoria to simply enable the launch and return of canoes and kayaks and to stop the erosion of the bank of the billabong. All of the recycled plastic components are made from a variety of Envire products. The paddler is able to roll down the launcher using the rails and float into the water from the hinged section that sinks under the weight of the paddler.

The canoe launcher is proving really popular on rivers, lakes and billabongs in both fresh and salt water environments.

Wakunpu Well Head – Canning Stock Route

Track Care WA Inc. is a non-profit organisation that supports the sustainable management and environmental protection of vehicular tracks, particularly those of cultural and heritage significance like the historic Canning Stock Route.

Wakunpu is one of the wells restored to provide drinking water on this world class 4WD track. The well heads along the route were made from timber that has not survived the harsh environment, particularly from termite attack. The well head and lining boards were replaced using Envire boards to provide a cost effective and long term solution to frustrate the termites, whilst maintaining water quality.

Thriving in the Circular Economy

The circular economic system tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, pollution and the decline in our finite resources by minimising waste and by maximising the efficient use of resources. IR utilises waste plastics as a resource which has both market and environmental advantages.
